DEET… dangerous?     

So which is more dangerous… the DEET in bug sprays, or the
bugs themselves?

THE EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has given the
green light to DEET as a safe bug repellant. 
Just two things to remember:

1. DO NOT USE DEET on Newborns or small babies. 
2. DO NOT USE DEET around your face.

Mosquito borne illnesses (West Nile, etc) can cause brain
damage and/ or death.  So… I’ll happily
grab the bug spray for my family and I.

Other ways you can avoid the bugs… wear light colored
loose clothing.

Work out hungry or not…

It may be my brain’s way to keep me from working out… but I swear I get hungry just thinking about going to the gym.  This… may not be a bad thing.

Research shows that its actually better for fat burning to go into your work out a little hungry.  Eating increases your insulin levels which could make it harder to burn stored fat.  It’s burning that stored fat that I want!  So… unless you are about to tackle a major boot camp work out, or you tend to get light headed… its best to skip the pre work out snack.  It’ll make that post work out meal even better!  YUM!

I'm all for protecting my skin... but I'm not sure about this.  Would you pop a sunscreen pill?  Such a thing does exist.  Well...kinda.

Research is showing us that antioxidants are crucial in protecting the skin from the sun's damaging rays.  Diets high in antioxidants such as resveratol, blueberries, catechins, and green tea help fight the harmful effects...but popping this pill (and others like it) may help too.

In additional to sunscreen... would you trust a pill to protect your skin?

Me?  I'm not sure. I'm going to need to see a lot more research.

One of the best things about making a big meal... LEFTOVERS!  But how long to leftovers actually last?

Follow the 2:4 rule.

2 Hours:

Don't leave food sitting out for more than 2 hours before you package and refrigerate.  Unless the food was sitting outside... then its just one hour.

4 days: 

If properly refrigerated, leftover shoudl stay safe up to four days.  After that... toss it out.  Sorry.

When I looked over the Mrs Carter world tour rider for Beyonce's backstage... I noticed something.  Listed on the MUST HAVES were titanium straws.  Wait...what? Titanium is EXPENSIVE... and she wants to drink her Pepsi through a metal straw?  That's fancy!

But actually... its a trend that is catching on for two reasons.

1.  No BPAs from the plastic straws

2.  Environmentally friendly... reusable.

But I've also heard of people chipping their teeth (ouch).  Plus, metal in my mouth makes me think of the Dentist.  No fun.

But hey... I'll give it a try if offered one.  Why not?!

UC Berkeley study shows that overexposure to lipstick may cause kidney disease and even cancer.  WHAT?  This comes after testing 32 top brands for some crazy chemicals...
